Apache LMB’s

Spent the day Saturday with my buddy, Mitch trying to find some smallies on Apache.  Not much luck finding them yet but we did find a bunch of lmb’s that were eager to play.  I shouldn’t really say eager but convincable at least to play.  Mitch fished conventionally and of course got into the better fish than I did.  He likes that.  I think that’s why he invites me along sometimes.   He was a wee bit tardy on the hooksets though (and I kinda like that) and didn’t get in the boat the amount that really should have been in the boat.  The fish weren’t really very aggressive early and made us work for every fish.  He got a nice three pounder on a jig while I caugh a couple of the 8-10″rs.

The highlight of the day was getting towards dusk and we spotted some bass busting shad.  We motored over and I began to whack the bass every cast, well almost.  It sounds good.  They were definitely targetting the fly at that point and a chartreuse Ultra foxy was working them pretty good.  The big guy even put down his drop shot rod and caught a few on his fly rod as well.  Pretty cool watching him throw the fly rod.  I have fished with Mitch now for about 4-5 years and I think back at how when I began fishing with him he would just give me a look when I caught smaller fish than him…not always smaller though. It was a good day with a good guy.

Just the start of bass time.  Apache, Roosevelt, Havasu, all are fun ’til spring thaw.
