Erie 2017

Here’s a report from Tim Oliver on the annual PA/NY trip.

The week of November 13th thru the 17th, Tim Oliver of Chandler AZ, Steve Martin of Sandy Utah, Pete Martin of Pittsburgh PA area and Jason Myer of Buffalo NY met up in the Erie PA area for the annual Steelhead Alley pilgrimage.  Missed ideal water condition by about 5 days, so had mainly low and clear conditions for most of the trip making the fish pretty spooky and uncooperative.  Unlike the low water conditions we experienced the last few years, we saw more fish throughout Elk Creek, Walnut Creek and 20 Mile Creek.  This may have been due to the really big rains that had fallen  a week and a half before we arrived had allowed fish to get spread out throughout the streams.  This storm has been reported to be one of the biggest on record.  The gauge on Walnut Creek was over 4000 CFS (normal flows are around 100 or less).  Most anglers we talked to agreed that they were seeing more fish this year than they have seen in a number of years.  Did not have any really big days, but we were able to find some each day that would play.  Most fish were caught were on  Glow Bug Single Eggs, Blood Dots and Bead Head Pheasant Tails.  Never made it over to New York this trip, but will definitely head back that way next year.  Big fish came in about 9 or  10  pounds.  We did land a couple of nice Browns at 20 Mile Creek this year.  TO
