Lee’s Ferry, Arizona-6 trips for 2010

Where– Lees Ferry is 15 miles downstream from Glen Canyon Dam. The dam holds back the Colorado River to form Lake Powell near Page, Arizona.

Historically, Lees Ferry served settlers as the only crossing of the Colorado for a couple hundred miles in the canyon country of American Southwest. Today, river rafters use the ferry as a their launch point just upstream from the entrance to the Grand Canyon.

While rafters float off downstream, we will head upstream by jet boat into the lower 15 miles of Glen Canyon. This is a spectacular stretch of canyon of winding sandstone cliff walls and clear waters which run below 50 degrees Fahrenheit year around.

When-We are running 6 trips to the Ferry in 2010, optimizing the best fishing of the year. Our trip schedule is as follows, always arriving on Friday afternoon and leaving on Sunday afternoon(you could add Sunday night for an additional charge); 02/20-02/21, 02/27-02/28, 04/24-04/25, 07/10-07/11, 07/17-07/18 and 10/23-10/24. The February trip finds fish in the shallows spawning and fish below those eating eggs. The April and October trips finds some of the best weather and consistent fishing of the year. The July trips are dedicated to fishing the Cicada hatch, big meaty dry flies with explosive takes.

The Fishing– Healthy and hard-fighting 14-19″ rainbow trout are the most common catch with some larger. Fishing with imitations of midges, scuds, and annelids is an effective year-round technique, but this time of year we hope to be able to fool them with drifted cicada patterns.

Accommodations– We will be staying at the Cliff Dwellers Lodge Friday and Saturday nights. Adjacent to the lodge is a well stocked fly shop and a choice restaurant. The lodge is minutes away from Lees Ferry and sits at the base of the spectacular Vermilion Cliffs.

GuidesLees Ferry Anglers will be providing the guide services. This assures your captain is experienced and knowledgeable.

Cost-$550 per person. This includes 2 nights lodging and 2 days of guided fishing.
