The holidays will be here in no time and many of us hang up the fly rods until the spring arrives.....many, many months away. Wrong!. There's always some fish to catch around here all year long. This is close to the end for our high lakes and streams but the local bass lakes are always worth exploring and most of the time you will have them to yourself. My favorite time on Apache is the winter. Lee's Ferry, the Salt River, Oak Creek, Silver Creek, the urban ponds, lakes down around Tucson, Rocky Point....even the bass lakes in Mexico are all options to consider. Take advantage of the situation and do some exploring. I love this time of year because expectations are always low so if you get lucky and find that honey hole...it's golden. Try out some of your new weird flies and perfect them. Is the motion right? Would it ride better if it had dumbell eyes? Should I make it ride differently? How can I make it weedless and still have good hooking qualities? What if I put rubber legs or a Reaper tail on it? What kind of tail?
